Kansas City Obama Headquarters: Exist or Not?

I need some major consultation folks...does the Kansas City Obama Headquarters exist or not???

In Mid-May, the official Kansas City kick-off was conducted which resulted in HUGE numbers coming out to support Sen. Barack Obama.  Many people assumed this also meant that an official campaign headquarters would be revealed and details of how anybody/everybody can participate would be declared.

As ESPN's Lee Corso would say, "not so fast my friend!"

While I may be entirely innaccurate, to date no official details have been presented regarding an official Kansas City Barack Obama headquarters location, leadership and coordinators, goals or efforts, fundraising activities or future events to the Show-Me State or Sunflower State of Kansas.

I do not want to receive any emails suggesting that I am being impatient and/or insensitive to the Obama campaign, particularly around the Kansas City area...but representing my readers at this blog, we do need to know some concrete facts regarding who exactly is running the show here in Kansas City and how we do we contact them.

There are a great many that are willing to branch out efforts all around the KC metro area: Platte County, Clay County, Jackson County, Johnson County, Douglas County and even Miami County.  Our supporters have already mustered up smaller events in Overland Park and Kansas City (that I know of) and I can assure other towns across KC have as well.

If anybody knows ANY information regarding contacts and locations....please respond to share with all supporters as quickly as possible.

Thank you Obama supporters!!

There is no official campaign HQ in Missouri yet. This is a very unique primary season. For the first time in many years there is no incumbent or VP running. There have been numerous shuffling of primary dates and the final schedule is still not set in stone. This makes it extremely difficult for HQ's to be set up until these dates are set as each state has a different # of delegates and obviously you have to cover the states taking into account date of primary and # of delegates for that state. For those of you new to this let me give you a little info on how this works.

On the Democratic side there are approximately 4500 (est.) delegates or votes to nominate the parties candidate. It will take us about 2,182 of these delegates to win the nomination. (I know, 2,182 isn't half, the math here is something I still don't quite understand) There are 314 "super" delegates consisting of Dem House and Senate members and Dem Govenors. So far we have about 25 of these who have announced for Obama, many still not declared. In January there will be 5 primaries/caucuses (up from 2 in 2004) controlling 322 delegates. The Florida primary is still up in the air as they moved up the date to Jan. 29th against the rules and wishes of the party. They have 185 delegates so this obviously upset HQ plans. Then the big day is February 5th (Super Tuesday), when as of today, 17 states, with 1,796 delegates hold their primaries/caucuses. Missouri with our 88 delegates makes up about 5%. Not a huge amount, but still critical. Unfortunately, the Kansas legislature failed to vote to fund a presidential primary in 2008, so as of now it looks like Kansas may just have a caucus, nothing is planned yet. Sen. Obama is ahead of the other front runners in setting up HQ's, but he is also counting on us to start the process before the "official" HQ is set up.

We have great tools to work with and a FANTASTIC candidate to support. I know you are all anxious but there is plenty of work to be done now. I encourage all of you who are interested in working for the Obama campaign to sign up at www.barackobama.com. There are several groups active in the KC area. They have sponsored the Obamarama at the Uptown, volunteered at the KC fund raiser on May 12 and participated in the Walk for Change last Saturday. There is a table at the River Market most Saturdays and others tabling at the Crossroads monthly event. Tabling will also be taking place at the Jazz festivals coming up here this month. Also, attend Camp Obama in Chicago if you can (info on Obama web site). We have several volunteers going up next week for this. Please don't wait until there is an "official" headquarters. That is certainly not what the campaign wants, remember what the Senator said, this campaign is about us too! not just him. The official campaign is very happy with what we've done in KC, we have impressed them with our participation to date so let's all keep up the great work!!

Life-long Dem...but I will not be able to vote for Sen. Obama if he doesn't stringently move away (DENOUNCE) from Rev. Wright.
Rev. Wright comes off as a racist and I don't think the Senator shares his views but he needs to address this issue clearly & NOW.
